The death warrant for Nirbhaya rapist’s, execution on January 22.

A Delhi court on Tuesday issues a death warrant for the four convicts in the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case. The verdict comes during the hearing of a plea seeking the issuance of a ‘black warrant’ against the four convicts. The execution of the convicts is on January 22 at 7 am.

The death warrant does not mean that the legal options for the four accused in the Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case have been exhausted. The four convicts can still file pleas against the death warrant. They have the option of filing a curative plea in the Supreme Court.

A curative petition is the last legal recourse available to a convict. AP Singh, the lawyer for the convicts, says that they will file a curative petition in the Supreme Court.

Reactions on the death warrant.

Asha Devi, mother of Nirbhaya believes that the execution of the convicts will restore the faith of women in law. “My daughter has got justice. Execution of the 4 convicts will empower the women of the country. This decision will strengthen the trust of people in the judicial system.”

“I am happy with the court’s decision. The convict’s execution is on January 22. This decision will instill fear in people who commit such crimes,” says Nirbhaya’s father.

“Wait of the people for justice is over today. It’s not about execution of convicts, but the decision shows that there should be zero tolerance for such crimes,” says G Kishan Reddy.

“I welcome this decision. It is a win for all the ‘Nirbhayas’ living in this country. I salute Nirbhaya’s parents who fought for 7 long years. Why has it taken 7 years to punish these people?” – Swati Maliwal, chief of Delhi Commission of Women.

“Whosoever teases women will get their lesson. Nirbhaya’s parents and everyone else has been waiting for this. Justice has been served. I hope people who misbehave with women learn from this,” says Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.

BJP MP Gautam Gambhir also tweets, “Finally! India’s daughter gets JUSTICE!”

Pawan Jallad, the probable hangman for the four convicts in the Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case, says he is ready to hang them. “With this, 130 crore people of the country will find peace. What these men did to Nirbhaya was horrific and they must be hanged.”

“I will be hanging them when I get the go-ahead from the superintendent. The superintendent, jailer, and doctor will be present in the prison complex on the day of the hanging,” he adds further.
