Ex-Union Minister Chinmayanand gets bail in sexual abuse case.
The Allahabad High Court on Monday grants bail to former Union Minister and BJP leader Chinmayanand in sexual abuse case. He was accused of sexually abusing a law student from Shahjahanpur.
The 23 year-old was a student of Shahjahanpur law college. Swami Chinamayanand’s trust runs this law college. He was arrested last year in September when the girl lodged the case against him.
Chinamayanand has been arrested under section 376C of the Indian Penal Code. It says an offence pertaining to abuse of one’s position by a person in authority to “induce or seduce” a woman under his charge to have “sexual intercourse not amounting to the offence of rape”.
Other charges put on Chinmayanand are stalking under Section 354D. Wrongful confinement under Section 342. Also criminal intimidation under Section 506 of IPC.
A SIT committee is looking into the case on Supreme Court’s order since August last year. However, the former Union Minister refuses all the claims of the student. His lawyers claim that this is all a part of conspiracy to blackmail the minister.
Swami Chinmayanand also filed a complaint against the woman and her three friends for extortion. According to him the woman and her friends were demanding Rs 5 crore from him.
The woman and her friends were also arrested in September last year for extortion. However, they also got bail in December, 2019.
According to Chinmayanand, they have been threatening to make public some videos of him getting massages from the student.
