Nirbhaya Case: Centre and Delhi Government challenge HC orders, move to Supreme Court.
Nirbhaya Case :The Centre and the Delhi government moves to Supreme Court after Delhi High Court dismisses the plea challenging the trial court’s order. The plea was against the trial court’s order staying execution of the four convicts.
Delhi High Court in its verdict says that all the convicts will face execution together, not separately. High Court also takes on authorities in concern with the case. For not taking steps to issue death warrant after the rejection of appeals of the convicts by Supreme Court in 2017.
Through L-G, Delhi government files Special Leave Petition against the verdict of High Court in Nirbhaya rape case matter.
Justice Suresh Kait, instructs the convicts to exhaust all the legal remedies available within seven days. After that, the authorities will take action as per the law.
The High Court during its ruling accepts that the convicts are messing up with the process by using delaying tactics.
Dates after Dates.
On January 7, the first warrant for the execution of the convicts on January 22 was issued by the trial court. But the execution did not happen due to the pending mercy petition of one of the convicts.
On January 17, another date for execution was fixed i.e., on February 1. On January 31, again the trial court put a hold on the execution. As the convicts still have some of the legal remedies to exhaust.
