Peter Mukerjea gets bail in Sheena Bora case.
Bombay High Court on Thursday grants bail to former media baron Peter Mukerjea in the Sheena Bora murder case. The ruling comes after more than four years of his arrest.
The Bombay High Court after observing that prima facie there is no evidence against him granted him bail. However, despite the bail, Peter Mukerjea will not be able to walk out of jail.
On the request of CBI, the high court puts a stay on its bail order for a period of six weeks. Within this time the probe agency will file an appeal against the order.
Justice Nitin Sambre gives the ruling on a Survey of Rs 2 lakh. Not finding any evidence of Peter’s involvement in the case Justice Sambre grants him bail. “When the incident took place, the applicant (Peter Mukerjea) was not in India. The trial in the case is already underway. The applicant is in jail for more than four years and has recently undergone bypass surgery.”
Peter was arrested in November 2015, in the Sheena Bora murder case. In this case, Indrani Mukerjea, wife of Peter is the main suspect.
The court also orders Peter to not make any contact with his son Rahul and daughter Vidhi. Peter’s children are the witness in the murder case.
According to the CBI, Peter, Indrani Mukerjea and her ex-husband conspired the killing of Sheena Bora. Sheena Bora was Indrani’s daughter from an earlier relationship.
Sheena Bora, at the age of 24 was murdered on April 24, 2012. The case, however, came in light in 2015 with Indrani’s driver’s arrest. The driver helped Indrani in disposing of Sheena’s body.
