A Pakistan passenger plane crashes with 107 people onboard near Karachi.

A Pakistan International Airlines flight crashes near Jinnah International Airport in Karachi. The flight scheduled from Lahore to Karachi crashed moments before the landing. The PIA flight was carrying around 107 passengers including the crew members. The flight crashed over a residential colony near Jinnah International Airport in Karachi.

The PIA spokesperson, Abdullah Hafeez confirms the news of the plane crash. The PIA plane PK 8303 was carrying 100 passengers and 8 crew members. According to the spokesperson, the  confirmation of casualties and damage is ascertain.

“Saying anything right now would be premature. Our crew is trained to handle emergency landings. All my prayers are with the families. We will continue to provide information in a transparent manner,” says PIA spokesperson.

What happened?

According to some eyewitnesses, the engines of the plane were on fire. That plane’s tail hit a four-storey building in Karachi’s Model colony. The footage shows a huge plume of smoke rising out of the crash site.

The pilot of the plane PK8303 called the control room and informed them about a technical snag in the plane. Even though two runways were kept ready for landing, the pilot decided to go around instead of landing. PIA CEO, Arshad Malik says that there will be a probe to find out what exactly happened.

According to witnesses the plane attempted to land two or three times before crashing. A senior official also says that the plane was unable to open its wheel prior to landing. 

Pak PM pays his Condolences.

Pakistan Prime Minister, Imran khan expresses shock over the plane crash mishap. He pays his condolences to the families of deceased and assures of immediate probe.

“Shocked & saddened by the PIA crash. Am in touch with PIA CEO Arshad Malik, who has left for Karachi & with the rescue & relief teams on the ground as this is the priority right now. Immediate inquiry will be instituted. Prayers & condolences go to families of the deceased,” tweets Imran Khan.

Rescue operations.

Pakistan army’s military choppers have reached the site and rescue operation is on. Pakistan’s armed forces have put out a statement informing that army troops have reached the spot. “Army Quick Reaction Force and Pakistan Rangers Sindh troops reached the incident site for relief and rescue efforts. Details to follow,” tweets Pakistan Army’s spokesperson.

“Pak Army Aviation helicopters flown for damage assessment and rescue efforts. Urban Search & Rescue Teams are being sent on-site for rescue efforts,” says Pak Army official.

Qamar Javed Bajwa, Pakistan Army Chief General also condoles the loss of “precious lives”. “COAS Shares grief of bereaved families in this difficult time. COAS directed provision of full assistance to civil administration in rescue/ relief effort,” tweets Bajwa.

An emergency has been declared across all hospitals in Karachi. The Minister of Health and Population Welfare of Pakistan has asked all hospitals to be ready for relief operations.

Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik react to PIA crash.

Ace Indian tennis star, Sania Mirza took to Twitter to pay her condolences. “May Allah have mercy and give strength to the loved ones of the deceased. No amount of condolences can be enough. Heartbreaking and so so tragic. #piacrash,” tweets Sania.

Pakistani Cricketer, Shoaib Malik also expresses his grief on the PIA crash. “In the midst of great suffering, we witness yet another devastating tragedy. This loss will continue to remind us of the sanctity of human life & the many adversities we encounter. Thoughts & prayers for their families & loved ones. May ALMIGHTY bless them all eternal peace Ameen,” tweets Shoaib.
