CBSE cancels board exams for class 10 & 12.

CBSE cancels board exams 2020 for class 10 & 12. The Central Board of Secondary Education announces its decision to cancel the remaining exams of class 10 & 12. The remaining exam was scheduled from July 1 to July 15. The board would instead be going ahead with scores of internal assessments and declare the results by July 15.

However, the board has come up with an option for class 12 students. The students of class 12 would have an option to appear in the exam for remaining papers later when the situation is favourable. However, there is no such option available for class 10 students.

The Supreme Court today heard the plea seeking cancellation of CBSE board exams for remaining papers due to the Covid19 fear. The hearing bench was headed by J AM Khanwilkar.

CBSE to Supreme Court.

Solicitor General, Tushar Mehta informing the Supreme Court says that the board has filed an affidavit which includes the reports submitted by the states. With immediate effect the CBSE board will not conduct the exams from July 1.

“Our affidavit filed half an hour back states that taking into account suggestions from States. Exam for Class 10 and 12 from July 1 stands cancelled,” says SG Mehta. He also states about the option available for class 12 students to appear in the exam later.

“CBSE has a scheme in which marks scored in past 3 exams will be taken into account. For Class 12, the exams will be conducted as soon as the situation is conducive. Marks for the students who opt for the class 12 examination will have that marks as final,” states Mehta.

According to CBSE board, the students of class 12 will have to share their decisions with the board. The decision regarding whether they will opt for the exam at a later date or accept the marks based on previous three examinations. The Supreme Court directs the CBSE board to reword its reply so that there is no confusion among parents and students.

ICSE To Follow CBSE’s Decision.

The ICSE board has also decided to follow the footsteps of CBSE. It will also cancel all the remaining exams starting from July 1. The board has decided to cancel all the ICSE, ISC exams scheduled from next month.

However, unlike CBSE the ICSE board will not give an option to class 12 students to take the exams later. The ICSE, ISC exams would not be conducted later and hence they are concluded.

A Chronology of Changes.

A few of the CBSE 10th and 12th board exams were postponed due to nationwide lockdown in the country. Exams scheduled from March 19 to March 31 were deferred till April, and then postponed due to Covid19 lockdown. As the country was under lockdown for over two months the board exams were scheduled to take place between July 1 and July 15.

However, as soon as this decision was announced many parents opposed the idea. The tension and uneasiness increased among parents as the dates of exams got closer. Currently the country is witnessing a whopping increase in the Covid19 cases. India’s Covid19 tally today crosses the 4.73 lakh mark taking the total to 4,73,105.

As the Covid19 situation in Delhi and Mumbai are only getting worse, the concern among parents has only risen. Taking into consideration the concerns of parents, the Supreme Court asked the CBSE board to ‘reconsider’ its decision on conducting exams in July.
