In a fierce encounter in Handwara between terrorists and our security personnels, five of our brave soldiers lost their lives. Two terrorists are also killed in the encounter. Among the two terrorists killed in the encounter, one is identified as Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Haider.

Vijay Kumar, IG Jammu and Kashmir Police confirms the encounter of LeT chief, Haider. “The chief commander of Lashkar in Valley, identified as Haider, has been killed in the Handwara encounter. We had inputs that he was in Handwara to receive a fresh batch of infiltrators but was eliminated.”

Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Haider was the face of terror in the Valley. He was active in Kashmir since 2015 and his motto was recruiting and motivating youths to join terror ranks. Haider was a resident of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). 

Our Martyred Soldiers.

In the intense gun battle with terrorists, five of our security personnels receive martyrdom. Among the martyr soldiers are one colonel, one major, two soldiers and one sub-inspector. 

The joint mission of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Indian Army was to prevent the hostage situation. The team of 21 Rashtriya Rifles enters the house where terrorists are holding civilians as hostages. The security personnels were successful in rescuing the civilians, however the team could not save itself. 

The security personnels came under attack by militants and lost their lives. “During the operation, the security personnel have to face heavy volume of fire by the terrorists. In the ensuing fire-fight, our security personnels kill two terrorists. But the five personnels also laid their life,” says an Army official.

Colonel Ashutosh Sharma.

The Commanding Officer of 21 Rashtriya Rifles and recipient of gallantry medal, Colonel Ashutosh Sharma was an exemplary patriot. Ashutosh Sharma carried out many successful anti-militancy operations in Kashmir region. 

According to Indian Army officials, it’s the first time in last five years that a Commanding Officer or a Colonel rank officer lost his life in a counter-terrorism operation. The last such case was in the year 2015.

Some sources of the Indian Army say that Colonel Ashutosh Sharma told his colleagues that he is aiming to catch LeT chief Haider. Colonel Ashutosh Sharma wanted to either nab or gun down LeT commander Haider.

According to sources, Colonel Ashutosh Sharma achieved his aim. Haider dies at the hands of Colonel Sharma. Ashutosh Sharma made a supreme sacrifice for his motherland.

PM Modi’s Tribute.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi pays his tribute to our brave soldiers martyred in Handwara. “Tributes to our courageous soldiers and security personnel martyred in Handwara,” tweets Modi.

PM Modi took to Twitter to express his heartfelt condolences to the martyr’s families. “We will never forget their valor and sacrifice. They served the nation with utmost dedication and worked tirelessly to protect our citizens. Condolences to their families and friends.”
