HRD Ministry relaxes admission criteria for NITs.

In a major development HRD Ministry relaxes admission criteria for NITs. Bringing in relief for many students, HRD Minister announces the relaxation in admission criteria for NITs and other CFTIs. According to the Union HRD Minister, the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) has decided to relax the eligibility criteria.

Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ says that the aspirants qualifying JEE Mains 2020 will not require a mandatory 75% marks in class 12 this year. For admissions in any NITs or other CFTIs this year, 75 percent marks in class 12 will not be a mandatory criteria.

“Attention JEE Main aspirants!

For admissions in #NITs & other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, apart from qualifying #JEE Main, the #eligibility is to secure a minimum of 75% marks in XII Board exams. Or rank among the top 20 percentile in their qualifying examinations. Due to prevailing circumstances, Central Seat Allocation Board (#CSAB) has decided to relax the eligibility criterion for admissions to NITs and other #CFTIs,” tweets Ramesh Pokhriyal.

Earlier apart from qualifying JEE Mains, securing 75 percent marks at the minimum was mandatory for admissions in NITs. But due to the Covid19 pandemic this year, several boards could not take the class 12 exams. Now candidates will only need a passing certificate in class 12 along with JEE Main qualification. 

“JEE Main 2020 qualified candidates will now only need to obtain a passing certificate in class XII examination irrespective of the marks obtained,” tweets Ramesh Pokhriyal.

Relaxations from IIT.

Earlier, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) also relaxed the eligibility criteria for admissions in IITs. This was due to partial cancellation of class 12 exams by various boards. Several board exams and competitive exams stand cancelled this year due to the outbreak of Covid19 pandemic. 

JEE (Joint Entrance Exam) Mains 2020 was postponed twice this year due to Covid19 pandemic. According to the announcement from the HRD Ministry, the JEE Mains 2020 exam is scheduled from September 1-6 2020.
