PM Modi virtually inaugurates 3 Covid19 testing labs in Mumbai, Noida and Kolkata. Chief Ministers of the three states including Union Health Minister, Dr. Harsh Vardhan also took part in the virtual inauguration. These new high-end throughput Covid19 testing facilities will help in ramping up the testing capacity in the country. It will help in strengthening early detection and treatment of Covid19.
These new Covid19 testing labs are strategically set up at ICMR-National Institute of Cancer Prevention and Research, in Noida. In Mumbai it is at, ICMR-National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health and ICMR-National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases, in Kolkata.
The new testing facilities will help in controlling the spread of the novel coronavirus in the country. These new testing labs are capable of testing 10,000 samples per day, which will ramp up the testing process. It will also reduce the turn-around-time and exposure of lab professionals to infectious clinical materials.
These new testing labs can test diseases other than Covid19. Post-pandemic these hi-tech labs will be able to test for HIV, Dengue, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. The labs can also test for Tuberculosis, Mycobacterium, Chlamydia, Neisseria and Cytomegalovirus.
PM Modi’s Virtual Addressal.
“Delhi-NCR, Mumbai and Kolkata are major centres of economic activity. Millions of youth of the country come to fulfill their careers and their dreams. Now the available capacity of the test in these three places is going to add to the capacity of 10,000 tests,” says PM Modi.
During his virtual address, PM Modi says that Mumbai, Delhi-NCR and Kolkata are major hubs for economic activities. He adds that it was necessary to add to their testing capacities. PM Modi says that these new throughput Covid19 testing labs will give strength to Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Kolkata to fight against Covid19.
PM Modi also highlights the fast development in the corona specific health structure in the country. He says that in January India had only one lab for testing but now we have over 1,300 Covid19 testing labs. “In January, where we had only one centre for the coronavirus test, today around 1,300 labs are working in the whole country. More than five lakh tests are being conducted in India every day. In the coming weeks, it is being tried to do 10 lakhs tests per day.”
Covid19 Specific Infrastructure.
PM Modi stresses on the need of Covid19 specific infrastructure in the country. He says that now we have more than 11,000 Covid19 facilities in the country and we are working on expanding the infrastructure. The government has allocated a package of Rs 15,000 crore for building health infrastructure in the country.
“The most important part for this big and long fight against coronavirus pandemic was that the corona-specific health infrastructure should be rapidly built in the country. For this reason, the central government had announced a package of Rs 15,000 crore at the very beginning,” says PM Modi.
India Fighting Well.
Lauding India’s efforts to fight the Covid19 pandemic, PM Modi says that India is in a much better position than other countries. He says that India could fight back the novel virus because of the right decisions taken at the right time. PM Modi also emphasises on how deaths due to Covid19 in India are low in comparison to other countries.
“Deaths due to coronavirus in India are much lower than many big countries. In Covid-19 fight, we have come to a point where we do not lack awareness. Our scientific data is expanding, resources are increasing.”
